With regard to its linear and non–linear optical properties, photonic metamaterials represent an already established part of today´s research. However, one field of investigation which has been hardly studied so far are quantum optical phenomena in these materials, especially the ones with a negative index of refraction. Hence, the aim of my thesis is to manufacture compound structures of quantum dots embedded in a negative refractive media and finally characterize its properties. Here, several interesting effects like the suppression of spontaneous emission are expected to emerge.
